Business Continuity Planning 101
BCP Overview / ConclusionHurricane Katrina Aftermath

Many of the problems that arose developed, at various levels, from:

  • inadequate planning
  • lack of preparedness
  • inadequate communication strategy for citizens and emergency workers
  • lack of back-up communications systems

The criticisms of the government's response to Hurricane Katrina primarily consisted of condemnations of mismanagement and
lack of leadership in the relief efforts in response to the storm and
its aftermath.

More specifically, the criticism focused on the delayed response to the flooding of New Orleans, and the subsequent state of chaos in the Crescent City.

Proper business continuity planning could have lessened the end result of this disaster.

Next, you will read another story. It occurs in Canada and further illustrates the need to have a solid BCP process in place.
