The Student Award and Scholarship recognizes a post-secondary student who has delivered an outstanding project or scholarly work—such as an academic paper, report, or presentation—within the past year. The work must demonstrate relevance and add value to the fields of business continuity, disaster recovery, or emergency management.

Eligibility and Requirements

To qualify for this award, nominees must:

  • Have been enrolled in a relevant post-secondary program within the past year.
  • Submit a completed nomination form.
  • Provide an executive summary of their scholarly work (maximum 750 words).
  • Submit an essay (maximum 250 words) explaining their inspiration to join the business continuity, disaster recovery, or emergency management professions.
  • Obtain an endorsement from a professor, instructor, or senior institutional member confirming the nominee's educational program and achievements.
  • Self-nominate by submitting their application.

Evaluation Criteria

Submissions will be assessed on:

  1. Executive Summary of Scholarly Work 
    • Clear purpose, objectives, and relevance to the industry.
    • Comprehensive description and analysis of the issue or problem, including impacts and solutions.
    • Consideration of broader implications of the issue and proposed solutions.
  2. Grade Received: Academic evaluation of the submitted work.
  3. Essay on Industry Inspiration
    • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the industry.
    • Clearly defined personal goals and future aspirations.
    • Emphasis on industry goals (e.g., societal benefits), relevant experiences (e.g., volunteering), and genuine passion for the field.
  4. Application Quality: Completeness, professionalism, and clarity, ensuring logical and relevant content.

Note: While each criterion is part of the evaluation, the Awards Committee looks for compelling submissions that capture the nominee’s strengths and qualifications.

Award Benefits

The award includes:

  • A $2,000 scholarship.
  • Complimentary enrollment in the BCLE 2000 course (a foundational business continuity certification course).
  • All applicants are entered into a draw for a second complimentary BCLE 2000 course enrollment.
